The Cornea Society/EBAA Fall Symposium is held on Friday immediately prior to the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). This is the Society’s annual scientific and business meeting, consisting of a full day of free papers and presentation of the Dohlman Award and Troutman Prize. The Paton Luncheon during this meeting is a lively, moderated interactive discussion of current clinical topics and controversies raised by the attendees. The Society co-sponsors two annual one-day meetings with invited speakers presenting updates on the latest surgical, medical, and diagnostic advances in the field of Cornea and External Disease. Cornea Day is co-sponsored with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), and is typically scheduled on Friday immediately preceding the ASCRS meeting in the Spring. Cornea Subspecialty Day, co-sponsored with the AAO, is typically held on Saturday at the beginning of the AAO meeting in the Fall. There are also Cornea Society Symposia during the annual AAO and ASCRS meetings. These shorter symposia focus on a single topic. The Castroviejo Medalist Lecture is delivered during the Cornea Society Symposium as part of the AAO meeting. The Society also sponsors and/or helps to organize a number of international symposia in conjunction with the EU Cornea Society, the European Society of Ophthalmology, the Asia Cornea Society, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, and the International Congress of Ophthalmology at the World Ophthalmology Congress. The World Cornea Congress (WCC) is the Cornea Society’s premiere educational and research meeting. The Congress highlights the progress that has been made in both clinical and research endeavors of the international corneal community. Originally held approximately every ten years, more rapid advances in the field have made it necessary to schedule World Cornea Congresses every five years. WCC I was organized by J. Harry King, MD, in Washington, DC in 1964 prior to formation of the Society. WCC II was the first of the Congresses to be sponsored by the Society. The next meeting of the World Cornea Congress is scheduled for the spring of 2015 in San Diego, CA.
